At the Burn Institute, we certainly hope so - because, we're all about change.
Change is good.
Everyday, we are changing the way people look at their homes, educating them about everyday fire and burn hazards, smoke detectors and the importance of creating and practicing a home fire escape plan. We are changing routines, too. By demonstrating how cooking on back burners, turning pot handles back, and lowering the temperature on water heaters can prevent the number one cause of burn injury... scalds. We're making a change for the better. And, we are changing risk-taking behaviors. By teaching children that matches and lighters are not toys, and instructing parents that these instruments of destruction should be locked up, we're helping put an end to the fastest growing fire threat in the United States.
After all, fire and burn prevention is all about changing habits.
And nothing is more powerful than the Burn Institute's work with young burn survivors. There is a lot of change going on there, as well. Not only are we changing children's perceptions about themselves, but also of the world around them. Camp Beyond the Scars is the Burn Institute's most notable burn survivor support program, which helps improve self-esteem, builds coping skills and changes attitudes. All these things help transform burn victims into burn survivors.
As you continue browsing through our website you will find valuable information on fire and burn prevention, burn survivor support programs, upcoming events that support the important work of the Burn Institute and how you can help us make our community a better place for all.
Sincerely,
