Fire are organized into five classes: Three common classes (A,B,C) and two specialty classes (D,K). Fire extinguishers are labeled with standard symbols identifying the types of fires they can fight.
Class A fires involve wood, cloth, paper, rubber, plastic and ordinary combustibles.
Class B fires involve flammable liquids, such as gasoline, oil, lacquers, paint and oil-based products.
Class C fires involve energized electrical equipment such as wiring, fuse boxes, circuit breakers, data processing panels and appliances.
If the wrong type of fire extinguisher is used, you can put yourself in danger or make the fire worse.
