We’re Hiring: Director of Burn Survivor Services

The Burn Institute mission is to educate and inspire communities to reduce burn injuries and empower those affected by burn trauma. About this Position
The Director of Burn Survivor Services is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of burn survivor support programs and services offered burn survivors in San Diego and Imperial Counties. This includes survivor camps, retreats, day conferences, meet-ups, and outings/activities in both counties. This position, being a positive representative of the Burn Institute, is also tasked with creating and maintaining relationships with community partners and supporters to benefit burn survivors in these counties.
This position serves as a member of the Management Team along with the Executive Director, Director of Prevention Programs, Director of Burn Survivor Services, and Director of Operations. This position will also interact with the Board of Directors.
Responsibilities
40% Burn Survivor Programs
Programs include peer support groups and meet-ups with burn survivors and families.
- Organize and plan survivor activities, programs, and events throughout the year (to include Camp Beyond the Scars, Adult Burn Survivor Retreats, Family Day Get-Aways, Young Adult programs, special events and Annual Holiday Parties)
- Negotiate and be the point of contact with vendors and community partners used to implement programs/events
- Oversee Burn Survivor Program Coordinator organizing volunteers for program/events
- Oversee Burn Survivor Program Coordinator for logistical details during the events/programs
- Interview and screen volunteers for camps and retreats
20% Burn Survivor Support
- Coordinate actions with UCSD Burn Center to assist new survivors with Emergency Needs and Special Assistance where needed
- Meet with and support burn survivors to:
- Offer resources from community, social, health, and welfare agencies to meet client needs
- Offer assessment and screening for burn survivors who seek volunteer opportunities within the Burn Institute
- Organize and facilitate the survivor peer and caregiver support groups
- Oversee the Wellness Program consisting of but not limited to supportive interventions and programming
20% Outreach
- Represent the Burn Institute and its programs to UCSD Regional Burn Center Outpatient Clinic and its staff on outreach efforts to provide assistance where needed
- Identify and facilitate outreach to community organizations to best serve the needs of survivors
- Maintain the oversight and implementation of the Emergency Needs & Special Assistance Fund by effectively supporting individuals and families in time of crisis and post-hospitalization needs
- Serve as a Burn Institute spokesperson when necessary. Act as point person at each event to welcome attendees, volunteers, and staff
20% Administrative
- Oversee and provide guidance to the Burn Survivor Program Coordinator
- Manage budgets for activities as they pertain to support programs and events
- Ensure all data for BSS is properly recorded in Salesforce
- Produce monthly and other written reports including program statistics
- Improve and develop the quality of burn survivor support programs
- Other duties as required
Position Requirements
- Be aware and respectful of the rich multi-cultural families in the burn community
- Able and willing to work flexible hours as needed, which may include weekends or evenings (Reasonable notice will be provided for work outside of normal weekday business hours.)
- COVID-19 vaccination
- Ability to pass a background check prior to employment
- Possess and maintain California Driver’s License and automobile insurance
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and work at desk workstation offering seated and/or standing position
- Must be able to travel between San Diego and Imperial Counties
Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a social science, human development, or work in a similar field to include knowledge on trauma informed care and practices required. (Master’s degree in relevant fields preferred)
- Minimum of three years nonprofit senior leadership experience working in a similar field
- Must have programmatic experience and demonstrated ability in program budgeting, planning, implementation, and tracking
- Strong intrapersonal skills and personnel management experience with the ability to work effectively with co-workers, burn survivors, Board members and the general public.
- Organizational skills to enable you to work independently as well as collaboratively with multiple departments
Compensation and Benefits
- Fulltime, Exempt, 40 hours a week
- Salary range: $70,000-75,000/yr.
