SUMMARY:Phoenix World Burn Congress
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, the Phoenix Society’s World Burn Congress – an annual\, international conference – welcomes hundreds of burn survivors\, their families\, caregivers\, burn-care professionals\, and firefighters. The Burn Institute offers scholarships to send burn survivors from San Diego and Imperial Counties to this supportive and transformative 4-day event. Currently\, all 2019 Scholarships have been fulfilled. \nParticipants benefit from: \n\nConstructive Workshops\nSupportive Environment\nCommunity-Building Experience\nSelf-Reflection & Transformation\n\nCan’t make it to World Burn Congress? DESCRIPTION:We invite burn survivors and their caregivers to enjoy dinner on us! We will be hosting an evening of food\, music and friends for our August 28th support group. Make new friends\, develop new connections and learn more about our burn survivor support community. This group session will be casual and a great first step into the world of group support. SUMMARY:Young Adult Program
DESCRIPTION:The Young Adult Program (YAP) is a life-skills program for burn survivors ages 18-25. YAP provides an opportunity to gain important and realistic life skills such as resume development\, financial literacy\, health education and peer to peer empowerment. It’s also an opportunity to meet and hang out with other young adult burn survivors who have lived through similar experiences. Young adults will set goals and surround themselves with people who support and empower each another. YAP meets quarterly at various locations. Next meeting date coming soon.

SUMMARY:Open Mic Community Event
DESCRIPTION:Storytelling is an important force in healing from a burn injury. The Open Mic Community Event Series is open to anyone who identifies as a survivor of a burn injury and their loved ones. It is an open space to share personal accounts\, stories\, and create empowerment and unity among the burn community. To attend this event\, you are not required to speak; you’re welcome to join the event to support others sharing their stories. \nWhat do you mean by story? Our personal accounts – what we have survived\, what these experiences mean to us\, and the things we have learned along the way – are what we mean by “stories.” Stories can be communicated with or without words\, literal or metaphorical\, happy\, sad\, or both! We welcome creative expression and aim to share an open\, nonjudgmental space. Our community of burn survivors and loved ones is diverse and filled with various stories of recovery and growth. Wherever you are in your journey\, there’s a strong possibility that there is someone in the community whose story might resonate with you – or vice versa. \nPlease note: Content shared at this event and stories shared may be difficult to hear. For this reason\, this event may not be appropriate for all ages. Please be mindful when bringing young children. \nRSVP \nAsk A Question
