Children under age 5 sustain scald burns at a rate higher than the national average, making them the most at-risk. Additionally, infants and toddlers have thinner skin layers, which leads to more serious and larger burns as well as permanent scarring. The majority of these burns happen in the home when child reaches and pulls a hot liquid onto him/herself.
