Please read below some expectations we have of scholarship recipients to ensure the safety and well being of all attendees. \n\nScholarship Requirements:\n\n Applicants under 18 years of age at the time of the conference must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.\n Applicants must reside in San Diego or Imperial Counties and/or have been treated at UCSD Regional Burn Center in addition to being either a burn survivor\, parent of a burn survivor\, or a family member/caregiver that has had their life impacted by the burn or is involved in the recovery of the survivor.\n Funding priority is given to first-time attendees.\n\nWhile at the Conference:\n\n Please consider your actions in an online community.\n Please provide the Burn Institute with a letter or email after World Burn Congress on how attendance at the conference was healing or beneficial.\n 1. Consider the following:\n\n you will be in the mix of a crowd of hundreds of burn survivors\, family members\, and care professionals\, both formally (in sessions) and informally\n you will meet many new people whose experiences are both similar to your own healing\, as well as unique to each individual\n you will hear other’s stories of struggles\, strength\, and thriving\n\n2. Consider facing the following experiences with an open mind:\n\n be ready to be supported in your continued healing\n be ready to meet many new people - other attendees - looking to “connect with a smile”\n consider being open to talking to new people\, one-on-one and in conference sessions\n be ready to listen to others’ survivor experiences\, both one-on-one and in sessions\n\n3. It is expected you have resources and/or ability to navigate around Phoenix World Burn Congress sessions\, events\, facilities\, etc.:\n\n\n sit through sessions that may last an hour or more\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Applicant InformationWorld Burn is a life changing experience. . SUMMARY:Open Mic Community Event
DESCRIPTION:Storytelling is an important force in healing from a burn injury. The Open Mic Community Event Series is open to anyone who identifies as a survivor of a burn injury and their loved ones. It is an open space to share personal accounts\, stories\, and create empowerment and unity among the burn community. To attend this event\, you are not required to speak; you’re welcome to join the event to support others sharing their stories. \nWhat do you mean by story? Our personal accounts – what we have survived\, what these experiences mean to us\, and the things we have learned along the way – are what we mean by “stories.” Stories can be communicated with or without words\, literal or metaphorical\, happy\, sad\, or both! We welcome creative expression and aim to share an open\, nonjudgmental space. Our community of burn survivors and loved ones is diverse and filled with various stories of recovery and growth. Wherever you are in your journey\, there’s a strong possibility that there is someone in the community whose story might resonate with you – or vice versa. \nPlease note: Content shared at this event and stories shared may be difficult to hear. For this reason\, this event may not be appropriate for all ages. Please be mindful when bringing young children. \nRSVP \nAsk A Question
