Camp Beyond the Scars strives to create a safe and stimulating environment for all campers - an environment where sensitivity, respect for others, support, and cooperation are valued. Every camper has the right to a positive camp experience. Camp Beyond the Scars' goal is to encourage each camper to develop new skills and establish a greater appreciation of his/her capabilities, while cultivating new friendships. Every volunteer wants to be there for the campers and is dedicated to their needs. Every experience is a learning experience and it is the responsibility of counselors and staff is to provide a well-rounded program to each camper. ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR GUIDELINES - Campers should... - Show respect and courtesy towards others and their property - Choose appropriate behaviors and language while encouraging others to do the same - Think beforehand about the results of their actions and how they might affect others - Solve disagreements by listening, discussing, and compromising UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR GUIDELINES (may result in camper being sent home immediately) - Campers may not... - Threaten, harass, bully, or fight other campers or staff members - Use profanity or verbally abuse (bully, tease, name-call, etc.) other campers or staff members - Use or possess tobacco products, illicit drugs, alcohol, and/or weapons at any time - Act in a manner that exhibits racist or sexist activities or humor - Use or take any items not belonging to them without permission from the item owner CONSEQUENCES FOR INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR If a counselor is unable, through discussion with a camper, to solve any behavioral problem(s), the counselor will refer the camper to the Lead Counselor where the following procedure will be implemented: - Strike 1: A warning to discontinue unacceptable behavior; may result in the camper losing special privileges and/or time out from activities. - Strike 2: The Camp Beyond the Scars Camp Director, the Burn Institute's Camp Coordinator, and/or another appointed designee will speak with the camper directly. A new consequence may result, including contacting the parent(s)/guardian(s) to speak with their child. - Strike 3: Camper will be removed from all camp activities and the camper's parents/guardians will be contacted by Camp Beyond The Scars Camp Director and/or Burn Institute's Camp Coordinator Being sent away from virtual camp will require an evaluation for eligibility to attend camp the following year. If a camper's behavioral problems persist, the Safety and Transportation Coordinator and Camp Director will make arrangements including suspension from future camps for a specified period of time. Camp Beyond the Scars reserves the right to remove from camp any camper whose behavior is, at the sole judgment of the Camp Director, determined to be detrimental to the best interests of the children and adults using the camp facilities and the overall welfare of the camp program.

Identify individuals who you consent to having Camp Beyond the Scars staff contact if we are unable to reach you regarding your child. These contacts must ALSO be alternative rides in the event you are unable to pick up your child.

Dear Parent(s)/Gaurdian(s): Per American Camp Association (ACA) Health Screenings and Assessments Mandates, we are required to obtain (1) a STATEMENT attesting that all immunizations required for school are up to date with the date of last tetanus shot, OR (2) If camps have minors who do not have immunizations (for religious or other reasons), a signed record or WAIVER form.

Be sure to include medication your child regularly takes during the school year.

The state of California requires this medical form. This form is not acceptable or valid unless signed by the parent/legal guardian. We will not admit a camper without a signed and completed health history, proof of medical insurance coverage and this release form.

I authorize and consent to any emergency medical care that should be deemed necessary for my child during his/her participation in camp beyond the scars. I authorize and consent to the dispensing of any prescription and/or over-the-counter medications for the duration of camp, administered by the medical staff. I agree to hold harmless the Burn Institute, its officers, and staff for medical aid rendered at camp. I understand that I am responsible for any follow-up medical costs incurred due to an injury sustained at camp. I understand that as the parent/legal guardian, I will be notified directly in the event of a medical issue or emergency pertaining to my child. However, if the Burn Institute is unable to contact me, the parent/legal guardian, my designated emergency contacts will be contacted regarding the care of my child.

I understand that all prescription medication must be checked-in with the medical staff at the time of arrival, and remain in the care of the camp medical staff for the duration of camp. I will provide the amount needed for the duration of camp.
