Fire Prevention & Education Programs

Fire Safe Kids (FSK)

  • Teaching kids to understand fire/burn risks and how to avoid injury is invaluable and life-saving.
  • FSK equips kids with knowing what to do – and what not to do.
  • Fire Safe Kids is a 30-minute, interactive education in-school presentation for K-6 students.
  • Training is provided by BI staff, and college interns.
  • Components of FSK address the critical fire/burn prevention knowledge…
    • Stop, Drop and Roll.
    • A home escape plan and how to create one.
    • Scald prevention and kitchen safety.
    • Fire setting danger awareness and prevention.
  • Students are encouraged to actively participate and practice the lessons shared.
  • FSK presentations may include local firefighters (depending upon their availability) with fire engines and/or EMT professionals with interactive presentations.
  • During household fires, children can be confused and intimidated by firefighters in their protective gear. FSK helps children to become comfortable with firefighters.
  • Bridging the gap from classroom to home is an important part of FSK.
  • Fire and burn safety resources expand the learning into the home where children can share what they have learned with their family.
  • Annually, we reach 30,000+ students with FSK.
