Fall 2020 Davee Scholarship Recipient Announced
The Burn Institute is thrilled to announce Jessika W. as the fall 2020 recipient of the Davee Scholarship. This scholarship program is designed to support burn survivors pursuing higher education, trade school or job training courses.
Jessika is a remarkable woman. Five years ago she had to put her education on hold after her burn injury to focus on healing. During this time she also poured her energy into working in a classroom with children with special needs.
“While working there and during my volunteer work I realized that one of my passions is to help build confident children.”
Jessika strives to use this passion to work toward a Bachelors in Sociology and ultimately a Masters in Counseling.
Jessika has been a familiar face to many young burn survivors over the past four years as a counselor at Camp Beyond the Scars. She is also active in the Burn Institute support groups and as an attendee at the burn survivor adult retreats.
Jessika’s experience volunteering at Camp Beyond the Scars, the skills she learned during support groups, and her experience in the classroom all lend themselves to her career path and we are delighted to be able to support her journey.
“I have the passion and the motive. Now all I need is the diploma to allow me to be the person I needed when I was younger.”
Jessika will use these scholarship funds to help with tuition, books, and other educational expenses.
Support for this scholarship comes from the generous contribution of Jerry Davee. Jerry says, “[Jessika] has done well, her grades are very good and I extend my best wishes for her continued success.”
