Spirit of Courage Awards Nomination

In 2024, the Burn Institute will proudly present its Spirit of Courage Awards Banquet.

This prestigious event will honor local heroes who have risked their lives to save another from burn injury or death by fire. The Burn Institute is now accepting nominations for incidents that occurred between January 1 2023 and December 2023. All nominees must meet the criteria listed below in order to be considered for this award:

  1. The nominee, civilian and/or uniformed personnel, must have performed an exceptionally courageous act in an attempt to save someone from serious burn injury or death by fire – wildfire, house fire, vehicle fire, etc. (The rescue must have occurred within the Burn Institute’s service area of San Diego and Imperial counties or involved a resident living in either county.)
  2. The rescue attempt must have involved a significant degree of personal risk – exposure to severe injury or potential death.
  3. Firefighters and law enforcement personnel are eligible for this award but must have displayed a level of commitment not normally required or expected in the day-to-day performance of their duties.
