Open Mic Community Event

Storytelling is an important force in healing from a burn injury. The Open Mic Community Event Series is open to anyone who identifies as a survivor of a burn injury and their loved ones. It is an open space to share personal accounts, stories, and create empowerment and unity among the burn community. To attend this event, you are not required to speak; you’re welcome to join the event to support others sharing their stories.

What do you mean by story? Our personal accounts – what we have survived, what these experiences mean to us, and the things we have learned along the way – are what we mean by “stories.” Stories can be communicated with or without words, literal or metaphorical, happy, sad, or both! We welcome creative expression and aim to share an open, nonjudgmental space. Our community of burn survivors and loved ones is diverse and filled with various stories of recovery and growth. Wherever you are in your journey, there’s a strong possibility that there is someone in the community whose story might resonate with you – or vice versa.

Please note: Content shared at this event and stories shared may be difficult to hear. For this reason, this event may not be appropriate for all ages. Please be mindful when bringing young children.
