As the year comes to a close, we want to share Liam’s journey with you—a story that reflects the resilience and hope that your generosity brings to the lives of burn survivors and their families. 

In June 2022, a family gathering in San Felipe, Mexico, turned into a nightmare for Liam and his loved ones. Filled with curiosity and boundless energy, young Liam was thrilled to ride in an ATV driven by his aunt toward the water’s edge. But their adventure took a tragic turn when the engine suddenly caught fire. As his aunt braked, leaking gas spilled and spread flames throughout the vehicle. In an instant, Liam was engulfed in flames, suffering burns across 65% of his body. He was rushed to a local hospital, but once the extent of his injuries became clear, he was quickly airlifted to UCSD’s Regional Burn Center in San Diego, where he would spend the next two and a half months bravely fighting to heal. 

Through those painful early days, Liam showed a resilience that amazed everyone around him. One of the most unforgettable moments came when Liam took his first steps again, still in bandages. The hospital staff and family members cheered as he walked, a brave young soul determined to reclaim his life. It was a powerful reminder of the strength and hope that lie within us all—even in the darkest of times.

Today, as Liam grows into a resilient young boy, he carries with him the support of an entire community. His family, too, has found strength in their journey, knowing that no matter what challenges lie ahead, they are not alone. Liam’s story is one of hope and the power of community—a testament to what we can achieve together.
