Welcome our new Executive Director, Peter Callstrom
We are thrilled to introduce Peter Callstrom as our new Executive Director, effective January 6, 2025. With his leadership and vision, Peter is guiding our efforts to expand our impact, deepen our outreach, and build a safer and more resilient community.
Peter brings the experience, track record, and servant leadership needed to support and advance the important work of the Burn Institute,” said David Ott, President of the Board. “We are delighted to have Peterjoin the team.”
Callstrom’s selection continues a notable nonprofit human services career including services to people with disabilities, addressing homelessness solutions, youth services, and delivering innovative workforce development. Most recently, Peter has been providing various consultative services to nonprofits and leaders. At the Workforce Partnership (WP), Peter is very proud of his diverse and collaborative team that he built and worked with to deliver remarkable outcomes. Prior to the WP, Peter was the CEO of the Regional Task Force on Homelessness (RTFH) and Partnerships With Industry (PWI); vocational and community support for adults with disabilities.
Peter has been recognized by the San Diego Business Journal as nonprofit CEO of the year and as a “Top 500 leader” for years. He was selected by the prestigious Aspen Institute for a fellowship to advance strategies, policies, and ideas to help diverse communities thrive in our changing economy.
A Minnesota native, Peter moved to San Diego after college. He and his wife Patti have two daughters and live in Carmel Valley. Peter enjoys family activities, photography, travel, reading, technology, golf, and racquetball.

The Burn Institute is dedicated to reducing burn injuries and deaths in San Diego and Imperial Counties. Founded in 1972, helped establish the area’s first and only regional burn center at UCSD. Today, the Burn Institute reaches thousands of children and adults each year with lifesaving fire and burn prevention education, supporting burn research and treatment, and conducting burn survivor support programs that help children and adults cope with the devastating effects of burn injuries.
