Spirit of Courage Award- Marc Burnett
On Thursday, May 5, 2022, CAL FIRE Deputy Chief Ty Davis presented the 2022 Spirit of Courage Award to Marc Burnett
It was October 1st, 2020 and Marc was opening his shop when he heard screeching tires and then the loud boom of David’s motorcycle hitting the side of a truck. Later, surveillance footage would show how quickly and intensely the motorcycle caught fire.
Marc turned and saw the flames. He reacted fast, grabbing a fire extinguisher, and ran toward the accident.
As he approached, Marc saw the motorcycle and driver engulfed in flames. He knew the motorcyclist was in bad shape, and at great risk to himself wadded into the accident and put out the man on fire. His only concern was to make sure David was okay. Amazingly, once David was no longer on fire, he stood up and walked to the side of the road.
